Leeds Fluid Dynamics Symposium 2026: A Research Showcase
The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Fluid Dynamics was delighted to host its 2026 Symposium on Friday 12th June at the University of Leeds. The event brought together researchers, students, and industry professionals for a full day of engaging discussions, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange across the fluid dynamics community.

The programme featured an outstanding line-up of keynote speakers, including Prof Simon Vosper (Met Office), who explored the successes and challenges of numerical weather prediction, and Dr Phil Trinh (University of Bath), who highlighted the role of fluid dynamics and asymptotics in addressing challenges related to climate, industry, and current fashions. Dr Allen Haddrell (University of Bristol) provided insights into optimizing indoor air to reduce disease transmission, while Prof Silke Weinfurtner (University of Manchester) captivated the audience with her talk on using fluid systems to model black holes and cosmological phenomena.
A highlight of the day was the NAG sponsored poster competition, which showcased the breadth and quality of research being carried out by postgraduate students. We are pleased to congratulate Ellen Bartle (3rd year student), who was awarded runner-up, and Gulana Anwar (2nd year student), who was awarded first place, in the NAG-sponsored Poster Competition.
Congratulations to the student committee for organising such a fantastic and engaging event; Grasiele Romanzini Bezerra, Danny Blundell, Vartika Rungta, Andrea Sendula.
The symposium was a great success, providing valuable opportunities for networking, discussion, and the exchange of ideas. We thank all speakers, participants, and organisers for contributing to such a stimulating and enjoyable event, and we look forward to welcoming the community again next year.
