Background
I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 2025, specialising in continuum dynamics and geometry. During my degree, I completed projects in non-linear waves and boundary layers. I also took part in a summer research project in Cambridge, researching the circulation of seawater in the oceanic crust due to magmatic heating from below using analytic and numerical (spectral) methods. My part of the project focussed on analysing real-world data to improve the basic Rayleigh-Darcy model and looking at the onset of instability for this flow and what conditions are required for convection to occur.
Research Interests
I am interested in both analytical and numerical approaches to fluids, particularly the process of building mathematical models to represent real-world situations. In addition to geophysical fluids, in the past I have enjoyed working on low-Reynolds number flows and scaling analyses, but I hope to keep my mind open on a potential research topic going into the CDT.
Why I chose the CDT in Fluid Dynamics
I really liked the idea of a chance to explore different fields and techniques some more before committing to a specific PhD project, which the CDT offers in the first year. I was also drawn to the cohort approach to the CDT both for the support it provides and for the opportunity to learn from others’ perspectives and approaches to fluids.
