UKFN Thesis Competition 2020 Results

Date

The longlist of 12 entries was reduced to a shortlist of three theses by the outgoing Executive Committee of the UK Fluids Network. The six members of the incoming Executive Committee read the three entries on the shortlist and agreed that all three theses were outstanding and worthy of the thesis prize. Each member had independently ranked the theses and, when tallied, the overall result was a three-way tie, even after inclusion of second and third preferences. The Committee therefore agreed to award the top prize jointly to all three applicants, including CDT alumni Dr Hannah Kreczak, for application of dynamical systems theory to mixing via the combination of three mechanisms: chaotic advection, cutting and shuffling. Her award was a cash prizes of £200.
