John Fox Memorial Prize 18/19

We are pleased to announce that CDT student Andrew Oates won the John Fox Memorial prize 2018/19. This prize (£2,000) funds one outstanding researcher in the area of engineering fluid mechanics at Leeds to attend an international placement to support their PhD research.

Andrew plans to use the funds to attend a month research placement between February- March 2019 with Dr Michael Meister at the Management Centre Innsbruck (MCI) in Innsbruck, Austria. Dr. Michael Meister has produced work very similar to Andrew's own project and his expertise will be invaluable. Additionally, MCI have a lot of experience with researching improvements to wastewater treatment on a varying number of projects, which includes using CFD simulations, and they work closely with the wastewater treatment industry. The placement will include experimental and numerical modelling of Anaerobic digestors to improve mixing efficiencies and an opportunity to gain numerical modelling expertise from Michael and his MCI colleagues.
