John Fox Award 2022

Congratulations to Jonny Bolton who was awarded the 2022 John Fox Award. The prize is awarded annually to a postgraduate research student who is studying any aspect of engineering fluid mechanics at the University of Leeds. The award is to enable a student to expand their research experience by participating in an activity outside the UK.  Jonny used his prize money to visit the Centre for Ocean Energy Research (COER) in Maynooth, Ireland. The centre is tackling fundamental problems surrounding the capturing and harvesting of ocean wave energy, which has a huge potential to contribute to the ever-increasing demand for renewable energy in today’s carbon-aware world. The centre hopes to develop new ideas and processes to make wave-energy conversion commercially viable. Jonny's visit to COER helped him to appreciate the challenges faced by the wave-energy field, and where his research fits in with work elsewhere.
